March is here, and with it comes that agitated stretch where winter season’s grip is loosening up however spring hatches have not rather started. The water’s still cold, the fish are still deep– primarily– and the very best thing a tyer can do today is fill package from leading to bottom. Today’s Tying Tuesday does precisely that, with 4 patterns that cover the whole water column.
We’re beginning on the surface area with the Parachute Adams– probably the most relied on dry fly ever connected and a must-know pattern for any tyer working the vise. From there we drop with a euro-nymph developed around Finn raccoon dubbing, a product that exposes its underbody when damp for a subtle, natural impact. Then we go to the bottom with the Depth Charge Crawfish, a jig-style micro craw pattern heavy adequate to dig up the inmost runs. And since often the difficulty is the point, we’re completing with a Size 20 Micro Bugger– evidence that marabou and hackle belong on hooks of every size.
Mark time the videos, clear the desk, and let’s tie.
