Previously this month, U.S. Representatives Peter DeFazio, of Oregon, and Jared Huffman, of California, reestablished the Southwestern Oregon Watershed and Salmon Defense Act. The act would make irreversible the securities supplied by the twenty-year Southwestern Oregon Mineral Withdrawal. If passed, the act would secure the headwaters of a number of South Coast streams from nickel strip mining and, in doing so, it would secure tidy drinking water for neighborhoods, crucial fish environment, and excellent entertainment chances. These valued rivers are worthy of irreversible defense from harmful mining practices.
