ROSEBURG, Ore– With current low returns of summer season steelhead to the North Umpqua basin, ODFW is looking for public input on prospective fishery management actions.
In 2021, summer season steelhead returns decreased in much of their variety from Cape Blanco to British Columbia. Simply 450 wild summer season steelhead went back to the North Umpqua basin in 2015.
This decrease, together with fires and dry spell in the basin triggered ODFW to reassess the North Umpqua summer season steelhead population and elements that might restrict their abundance. Aspects might consist of stream and ocean conditions, the hatchery program, and more.
As ODFW identifies if fishery management modifications are needed, public input on the hatchery summer season steelhead program is required.

March 29 public workshop (in-person)
ODFW is hosting a workshop in Roseburg at the Douglas County Fairgrounds Conference Hall structure, Waterfall West space March 29, 6 p.m.– 8 p.m.
The workshop is restricted to 100 participants and pre-registration is required .
Throughout the workshop, participants will take part in different round table conversations fixated these subjects and more. The interactive nature of the workshop guarantees all voices are heard and stakeholders can discuss their views with those at their table. Each table will be helped with, and individuals will move in between tables to cover all subjects.
March 19-27 Study
Those who can not participate in the workshop however would still like to use input can take a study. The study is open 12 a.m. March 19 to 11:59 p.m. March 27.
April 7 public webinar
The general public is welcomed to a virtual webinar April 7, 6 p.m.– 7:30 p.m.

April 22 Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission
Public input from the workshop, study, and webinar will assist craft management suggestions for the hatchery summer season steelhead program. Personnel will provide this info to the Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission for approval at their April 22 conference in Astoria.
