Fly fished the Beaverkill River in the Catskills of NY on Mom’s Day. It was a warm, cool, and SUPER windy day … with the nights cool also. This produced the water temperatures in the upper 40s and eventually peaking at 50 by the afternoon. The fish appeared to be in the much deeper runs.
This video is fishing one run that I went through two times. The fly that was the most “practical” was the mop fly. The size 12 mop with a 3.8 bead assisted anchor my drift in the enormous upstream wind. It is a fly that must remain in your bag of techniques when the scenarios require it.
The other flies that produced on this day were a size 16 natural Walt’s worm and a size 16 natural pheasant tail on the dropper.
