I was speaking to some novice fly anglers just recently, and among the concerns I heard had to do with how to recover a banner.
” There’s not actually a right or incorrect method,” I responded. “You simply need to find out what the fish desire.”
In my experience, that’s been mostly real. Dom Swentosky, over at Troutbitten, has a somewhat various take, nevertheless. I believe he’s right, as he generally is. A banner recover boils down to a single concern: do you bring it back smooth, or fast?
” I enjoyed my fly and the trout’s reaction,” Dom composes. “And I discovered that every fast motion, every jerk or slice on the fly actually alarmed trout away from the banner. They relapsed to the riverbed or they went bolting for cover. Speed of discussion was stopping working.
” However when I carried out the exact same movements– the exact same jigs, slides and strips– efficiently, one trout after another purchased the discussion and consumed the fly. Smoothness was winning.”
As normal, Dom dives into the why behind this modification in discussions makes a distinction, and he informs a couple of stories to show the point, too. You must check out the entire story, which you can do here.
