Here’s the most recent installation in a continuous series of videos called “ One-Minute Fly-Tying Tips and Methods” from Tim Flagler of Tightline Productions Each video teaches a single connecting ability, from one of the most fundamental to the advanced. Eventually, the series will act as a sort of encyclopedia of connecting abilities that will be an important resource for anybody who takes a seat at a vise to develop a fly.
Recently, Tim demonstrated how most subsurface patterns wander perpendicular to the streambottom since of the method weight is dispersed on the hook. Today, he shows a number of methods you can include weight out in front of the hook eye or include flotation at the hook bend to develop flies that are “well balanced.” That is, they wander horizontally or display a jigging movement when removed.
